Ruby Begay

TOLAKAI — Funeral services for Ruby Begay, 85, will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 7, at Bethlehem Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Bobby Boyd will officiate. Burial will be i n Green Meadows, Rock Springs. Visitation will be 3-4:40 p.m., today, April 6, at Rollie Mortuary.

Begay died April 3, 2011, in Tohlakai. She was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Tohlakai, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Begay attended Tohlakai Trailer School for 2 years where she learned how to spell her name and how to do sign language. Begay was a homemaker, she worked very hard and was a sheep herder and grew up riding horses. She was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Reformed Church and would sew quilts for the church for fundraising.

Survivors include her son, Reuben Begaye of Tohlakai; daughter, Shirley Manning of Tohlakai; sisters, Sarah B. Long, Marie B. Yazza, of Tohlakai; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by her parents, Nasbah Begay, Hatahli Charlie Begay; grandparents, Hosteen Detsoi and Nanasbah Begay; brothers, Coolidge Begay, Howard Begay, Clarence Cleveland; sisters, Edith C. Watson, Nellie B. Orillie.

Pallbearers will be Leon Long, Bennie Yazza, Reuben Begaye, Steve Orillie, Luther Arizona, Norman Cruz.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bethlehem Christian Reformed Church, Tohlakai, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Hale Sr.

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral Mass for Vernon Ernest Hale Sr., 73, will be 10 a.m., April 7, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The Rev. Abel Olivas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., April 7, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited 4:30 p.m., today, April 6, at St. Michaels Catholic Church.

Hale died April 4, 2011, in Fort Defiance. He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Oak Springs, into the Salt Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Hale was a “Man of Life”. He was a rancher, farmer, conservationalist, loved spending time with grandkids and family. He was always a man of spiritual value, humble reverence to the holistic stewardship of humanity.

Survivors include his son, Vernon E. Hale Jr.; daughters, Verna Hale-Tabaha, Laverne Emerson, Vera M. Hale, Velma M. Hale, Verlena M. Hale, Vernonda M. Hale; brothers, Joe Hale, James T. Hale, Frank Hale Jr.; sisters, Aileen Hale-Chee, Mary Ruiz, Jeanette Begay, Ethel Roanhorse, Evelyn Hale; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Hale was preceded in death by Sadie Hale, Frank Hale Sr., Ahadesbah Hale.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Emerson, Laithan Emerson, Virgil Begay Jr., Frederick Tabaha.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Parish Hall, St. Michaels, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Stephanie Howes

GALLUP — Services are pending for Stephanie Lynn Howes, 60.

Howes died April 2, 2011 in Wheat Ridge, Colo. She was born Oct. 25, 1950, in Gallup.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

David Rocco Jr.

PHOENIX — Memorial services for David Allen Rocco Jr., 57, will be at a later date, in Phoenix.
Rocco died March 15, 2011, in Phoenix. He was born June 21, 1954, in Albuquerque.

Rocco was a hair stylist by trade. He had many talents which included a master chef, baker, horticulturist and enjoyed knitted special Afghans for his family. He was an artist of tile work and accomplished his achievement to perfection and detail.

Survivors include his wife, Asia Rocco; sons, Chad Rocco, Blake Rocco of Phoenix; step-mother, Mary Rocco of Gallup; brothers, Dennis A. Rocco of Hartford, Ala.

Rocco was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Rocco, DeLuanna Rubenstein; brother, Jeff Rubenstein; grandparents, Evlla Alvin Milligan, Tony and Victoria Rocco.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
